Our Scoping & Engagement Process

Every tax engagement starts with understanding your specific situation. Here's exactly what happens from your first inquiry to your filed return.

01

Discovery Call

Book a free 30-minute tax discovery call through our scheduling system. We learn about your situation, answer initial questions, and outline what comes next.

02

Secure Document Upload

We send you a secure invitation to our encrypted portal. You upload your prior-year tax returns, current-year tax documents (W-2s, 1099s, K-1s, etc.), and any relevant supporting documentation.

03

Document Review & Scoping

Our team reviews your prior returns and current-year documents to assess complexity — number of schedules, states, entities, and any special situations. We then prepare a detailed scope and fixed-fee quote for your review.

04

Engagement & Preparation

Once you approve the scope and sign the engagement letter, we begin preparation. We may request follow-up information during the process, all handled securely through the same portal.

05

Review & Optimization

Every return is reviewed by a CPA before delivery. We identify deductions, credits, and planning opportunities — making sure you're not leaving money on the table or exposing yourself to unnecessary risk.

06

Delivery & E-Filing

We walk you through the completed return, answer your questions, and e-file once authorized. You receive a copy for your records — and we're available year-round for follow-up questions.

Common Questions Answered

Every engagement is scoped to your specific situation, so we can't give an exact quote without first reviewing your prior return and current-year documents. Individual returns start at $350, and we provide a fixed-fee quote before you commit. Complexity drivers include the number of schedules, states, business entities, and any special situations like crypto, foreign income, or K-1s.

We use Microsoft SharePoint, an enterprise-grade secure portal protected by encryption and multi-factor authentication. After our initial call, we send you an invitation to your dedicated client folder where you can upload your documents at your own pace. We never accept tax documents by email or text message, as those channels are not sufficiently secure.

Yes. As a fully remote firm, we serve clients across all 50 states. We handle multi-state filings, nexus analysis, apportionment, and reciprocity rules. There is typically a small add-on per additional state, which we include in your initial scope.

Forward the notice to us right away — we review IRS and state correspondence for current clients as part of our service relationship. If the notice requires a formal response, drafting, or representation, we'll quote you separately for that work. For matters that require full audit representation, we offer audit defense services on an hourly basis.

Once we have all your documents, simple returns are typically completed within 1–2 weeks, and complex returns within 2–4 weeks. Turnaround during peak tax season (February through April) can extend slightly, so we recommend getting your documents to us early. If you're running close to a deadline, we can also file an extension.

Both. While preparation is the most common starting point, we strongly encourage clients to engage us for proactive tax planning — quarterly estimate reviews, year-end strategies, entity structure optimization, and major life-event planning (selling a business, large gifts, retirement decisions). Tax planning typically pays for itself many times over.

Absolutely. We regularly help clients catch up on multiple years of unfiled returns, navigate IRS communications, and get back into good standing. The earlier you reach out, the more options we have to minimize penalties and interest. All consultations on these matters are confidential.
